Yes the medication can cause nausea and vomiting.Regarding the 3 broken ribs, you will need to practice deep breathing workouts.Take in deep breaths and hold them for several seconds. I just got a new property blood pressure monitor named Omron HM780, supposedly accurate. Now when I go to the store my readings are between 130/85 to 148/95 and when I get home my readings are amongst 115/70 to 132/85 WHAT Should I TRUST?

Blood pressures taken by a cuff are not as acurate as these taken manually by a medical proffessional or these taken invasively (straight from your arteries – they only do this for you in hospital in significant instances – such accuracy is not essential otherwise).
Your blood pressure could be fluctuating this considerably anyway, its hard to inform without having a vast quantity of readings. also the way you apply the cuff can influence the readings, if there are any kinks in it or if your arm is bent it cant have an effect on the reading, this is why a quantity of readings show more accuracy than just one.

What is the most absurd/useless baby gadget, toy or piece of equipment that some one gave you or convinced you to buy when you were pregnant?

My father-in-law thought I should get a baby-cam. It was a video version of a baby monitor.

Some one else bought me a basinet that we used for 3 weeks tops.

Everyime I turned around someone was trying to sell me something that I could not live without. It started to make me wonder how babies ever survived when there were not baby wipe warmers:)

I didnt fall for any of that stuff, mostly because I don’t have money to burn.
The baby product i find most pointless are those nappy wrapper bins.

The wipey warmer. I never even took it out of the box. Waste. Also a bottle warmer…microwave works just as well and faster.
I used a bassinet for at least 5 months. I thought it was the greatest. I moved it around the house and outside too. Funny how some people find things useful and others not.

I couldnt have survived without the vibrating bouncy seat.

There is so much useless baby gear out there. The worst are all the toys and gizmos. You need blocks, stuffed animals, books, barking dogs, singing bears, musical cats, a telephone that rings, and real looking and feeling keys. Half these things always remain in the toy box. Others are kept in a seperate box downstairs so we can switch when he becomes bored…but we’ve only bought him two or three toys and somehow we have boxes full!!

Funniest thing is he doesn’t even use them. He has three toys he plays with the most. Baby Elmo, Fisher Price bear that sings, and a Baby Einstein farm book. The others sit in the toy box for most of the day. Except the books….he loves those board books.

There are so many items out there now for babies it is hard to know what will be most useful.
I always bought strollers carseats and cribs when i bought something.
A bassinet is ok for when they come home from hospital but they outgrow them too fast.
My grandmother didnt have diaper rah cream we have to day like Destin so she had to use the lard.
Be glad you not in her days.

Someone swore I needed a diaper Genie. That thing sucked! If I was out of cartridges, then what? Lug my newborn out in the cold for special bags?
I still get angry at myself for that purchase!

WOW where to start. The most useless thing for me was the changing table. I always ended up doing it on the floor. Thank goodness I didn’t buy it, I was given one. With both, it was just nicer to do it on the floor, especially when they started moving around.

I actually did use our bassinet (again, a gift) for 3 months. I didn’t want to co-sleep w/ my second, so I put her in the bassinet by our bed.

I guess it just depends on who you are and what works best for you.

For me it would have to be the bottle sterilization thingy. I figured, “The five of us didn’t grow up with any weird diseases because they didn’t have those things around when we were babies,” and just did what my mom did, boiled them in a big pot for 5 minutes when you first buy them. Totally useless!

hahaha some of my favorites were: The baby “leash” yeah that got thrown away immediately. 2 ounce bottles (good for a week I guess) The wipe warmer as you mentioned was never used because I change my kids all over the house, the wipes travel. Thus the changing table is pretty useless other than it’s nice to stack things on such as spare diapers, wipes, burp rags and bibs.
Of all of the “useless” things I recieved here’s the topper: The dr. spock book. I haven’t looked twice at it.

She hates the firm mattress of her crib and bassinnette since birth. She will sleep on my bed which is a pillow top mattress or in her crib where we placed a huge pillow. I know all the dangers of this (believe me, I work in pediatrics). Have any of your kids started out on the soft bed and transitioned to the more firm mattress … eventually? Are there any suggestions to get her to sleep on a firm surface? I can’t say I blame her, I don’t like a firm mattress either. I have a video monitor so I can watch her sleep to make sure she is ok. Plus she’s 8 months old and can get in and out of stuff pretty well.

How about weaning her out of the habit. Try stacking several folded, soft blankets under her and see if she will sleep on that. Then after she gets used to it you can remove one blanket, then another, and so on. Just a thought! Best of luck!

awww.. my little boy did the same thing. I ultimately got a bassinet that fit a soft bed pillow perfectly. (it had sides and was like the actual mattress) He’s 4 now!!

my now 10 week old did the same thing. I was really uncomfortable with putting anything in her bassinett when she was younger but one night when she was at my mother-in-laws house she used a memory foam pillow that has a curve in the middle and then one side is a little higher than the other one and it fits perfectly in her bassinett and ever since that night that is how she sleeps. She can pull blankets on and off her if she wants too but i don’t put them in their with her and she can lift and situate herself very easily so I got more comfortable with the idea.

Going along with the idea of stacking blankets- instead of having them loose underneath, why not layer them under the fitted sheet for the mattress? That way you know she won’t get tangled up in them from being so active.

Why does my android phone's battery drain even when it's off?

I have a Samsung galaxy prevail and I charged my phone to 100%. Then I turned off my phone overnight for about five hours. When I woke up to go to work I turned it back on thinking that by turning it off none of the battery life would be drained, the battery was at 55%, what the fuck!! I don’t get it, someone please explain to me why that happened and how do I avoid losing battery life when I’m not even using my phone.
The phone is fairly new, I got it June 13, 2011. So, the issue can’t be that the battery is worn out.

Depending on how long you have had the phone the battery maybe going south. Rechargeable batteries do not last forever and it definitely sounds like your battery is not holding a charge.

Yes, I know, a 4.3″ Phone against a 7″ Tablet? Not right. But I can not decide, so you may help. My Samsung Galaxy Prevail on Boost has a dent in the screen and giving me a lot of problems, freezing, rebooting, not charging, you name it. So I want to get the ZTE Warp, it has a bigger screen… Without the dent (for now ) and it has a lot better specs. but I am also wanting the Tablet for the better battery life, bigger screen, and HTC Sense 2.1 for Tablets. I can’t decide, my phone functions perfectly but looks funky when screen is off, so that also leans toward the ZTE, but not having a decent battery and a smaller screen (and no Modded Sense 2.1) leans toward the Flyer. It’s either one or the other and I think im still going more for the ZTE… What is your opinions?
That is an absolutely wonderful idea, with only one problem, it was a win win, but not for me, we don’t have really good credit, and we won’t do contract, cause all of us know, within two years that phone will be completely bottom of the line. It was a wonderful idea, even if we could get contract I wouldn’t have thought about it. Thank you though.

Get a free phone on contract at a store such as RadioShack, who carries a ton of free phones and great accessories. Then use the money you saved on the phone to buy the tablet! Win win, plus you get better coverage and higher quality service than Boost.

As For Boost Mobil ZTE Warp Accessory was so inexpensive I was not optimistic about it, but it is actually really, really nice! It is the equivalent quality of a $ 20 case one might get a radio shack. It is a pliable rubber material that fits the phone perfectly, and provides excellent protection. I would highly recommend this item!

I DON’T mean labor, delivery, appointments and hospital costs…

I mean, diapers, cribs, clothes, nursing supplies etc. My brother and his wife just had a baby and they went overboard: they bought a video baby monitor, a $ 500 crib, top of the line outfits, three strollers, three swings…

My husband and I are talking about having one and we don’t believe in going overboard like that. $ 500 for a crib?! Most cribs I looked at weren’t even close to $ 500. Why spend $ 20 on an outfit that a baby might never wear or wear once when you can buy used outfits for .25 to a $ 1 or get hand-me-downs for free!?

How much should we expect to spend on getting ready for the baby… keeping in mind that we wouldn’t buy any luxury items.

A baby cost as much as you want. It depends if you’re willing to use hand-me-downs, and buy second hand furniture.
I highly recommend it… babies grow out of everything so quickly. You can provide a baby with everything it needs, and it doesn’t cost a fortune.

It depends. If you buy or borrow second hand items that are in excellent condition then you save a lot. You also save a fortune if you breastfeed and cloth diaper. I realize cloth diapering isn’t for everyone but it is a wonderful option for people who are financially strapped.

It’s hard to pin down an exact amount in dollars, but I would say take advantage of hand-me-downs, and buy lightly worn baby clothes (they’re more comfy for baby anyway and people can’t tell they’re used!). And penny pinch in those ways.

When my fiance and me had our son we didn’t buy expensive things, we shoped at wal-mart. We spent I think a total of about 1500.00-2000.00
that was enough to cover us for about the first 6 months.

when it is your first kid you do tend to go overboard with the spending…but honestly you don’t need all that stuff…my husband bought a expensive crib and my daughter rarely sleeps in it, clothes…kids grow out of them so fast they barely get to wear them twice, as for the swings and monitors…the cheap ones work as well as the expensive ones…there is no difference. I would save all that money for diapers because let me tell you this…babies go through diapers like as if they were free..so yeah it’s good to spoil your baby with the finer stuff in life but don’t let it make you go bankrupt..your baby will never know and prob. won’t even care.

This all depend on where u go and what u get. First of all $ 500 on a crib is just ridiculous especially when babies hardly ever use them. U can always get a travel basinet they run between $ 30- $ 60. As far as clothing u can pretty much get those anywhere for cheap prices and with diapers buy by the case. U can get them at babies r us, walmart, target or kmart. It doesn’t have to be as expensive or stressful as some people make it out to be.

Honostly i got most everything i need from my shower, and everything else my mom and dad and close family bought me, breastfeeding also lowers your expense because you wont have to buy bottles,formula etc. I dont think babies ARE THAT expensive as people make it out to be, im a young mother on maternity leave and hardly bought anything for my baby and the only thing ive bought thus far is a coat and snowsuit because its getting cold and i didnt register for clothes, i went to garage sales on start of my maternity leave and i also bought some diapers and i also went on pampers and huggies sites and they send you coupons.

You can find crib/changing table/dresser sets for around $ 200, plus around $ 50 to 70 for the mattress. Strollers vary in price based on the style. You can get a good stroller and car seat combo for around $ 120.

Clothes are what you want. If you go to a good consignment store you can get 3 to 6 months worth of baby clothes for $ 50.

Diapers and formula are things that you can’t really do much about. Diapers are $ 6 to $ 16 a pack based on the brand. And I can say that store brand is not always the way to go when it comes to diapers.

Formula is about $ 10 a can that will last a couple of days (breastfeeding is free).

You will probably spend about $ 100 on toys (bouncy chair, swing, that kind of thing)

Best book titles for a newborn baby girl?
My sister had a baby girl yesterday and I would love to bring her the best book to read to her baby girl. I figured it’s a good gift to bring to the hospital tomorrow since the baby already has too many clothes and accessories, furniture and “stuff. I gave her the Medella and for their birthdays June 1st I plan on giving them (the parents) a baby video monitor) so i don’t think they expect anything big right now. My sister s somewhat of an intellectual, she likes and can afford the top of the line everything and has conservative taste. I did a short search on Borders and I really can’t tell what’s a best seller for baby girls. I would like it to be about or specifically for girls. My sister has always been kind to my boys and this is our first baby girl to be born into our family in 24 years! What’s a classic on the best seller list for girls? if you really want the present to count , try and find the book your sister liked when she was a child (ask your parents )

Are you actually looking for a book for the baby, or a book for the parents of a baby girl? I can help you with the first one. Look for what is known as “board books”. They are usually made of hard, thick cardboard so a baby can grab it without the pages ripping. They usually have bright pictures, or just starkly contrasting black and white images that newborns are supposed to be able to see better. Actually if you’ve noticed, babies like bright colorful objects, so go for the brightest, cheeriest pictures you can find. Most board books have little or no words, but this isn’t important at this age. The idea is bonding with baby. The parent holds the little one while showing the baby the pretty pictures and talking about them. You can even get siblings involved. Even a young child can “read” to the baby. A lot of board books have fun-to-touch surfaces with fake fur, sandpaper, etc to simulate animal pelts, or other objects. The gold standard of this last type of baby book is “Pat the Bunny” by Dorothy Kunhardt. It’s been around forever, and it’s still in print.
Here are other books you might try:

“Black on White” and “White on Black” by Tana Hoban. Features black and white silhouettes of common things.
Books by Helen Oxenbury. She has too many to list. They feature cute cartoon-like drawings of round-headed babies doing baby things.
Touch and Feel series by Dawn Sirett, for instance “Animals” (photo of cute bunnies on the cover)

Just go back to Borders and ask to see the board books. You will have a lot to select from. Or you can go online and order them. When you’ve got a collection you like, put them in a big pink basket (or tie a big pink bow on the handle). Throw in pink things like a small stuffed toy, soft washcloths, a bottle of Johnson’s baby lotion, and maybe some onesies or a little crocheted sweater.

As for the parents, I did find this on Amazon but it would be easily available at any bookstore: “Baby’s Own Book-Girl” from the Blue Lantern Studio. It’s a small baby record book, with a pink (of course) cover with pretty illustrations. There is also a book of quotations and photos called “It’s a Girl” by Ariel.

Since none of the books I’ve listed is very expensive, you might combine books for the parents and books for the baby into that gift basket.

As she is a newborn, she will not care what you get. Newborns can apparently ony focus about 30 cm or about 1 foot at birth…

So maybe this is for a “future” thing for her.

“Little Golden Books” are a lovely thing, so maybe buy a few for her now and add to them on her birthday and Christmas and other gift giving times.

Find picture books or with lots of pictures as that’s what will interest her first. So for example remember ones you loved as a child, the one about the little worm or Where the Wild Things Are or there is an author / artist called Graeme Base – Animalia for example is great on several levels. Firstly there are 26 pages, 26 sentences / paragraphs using each letter of the alphabet and quite a lot (alliteration), and each page has pictures of things from that letter (so L has lions and letters and llamas etc) And there is a little boy in a Where is Wally type search…

I was given a book as a child called “I like this poem” which is a collection of poems as suggested by children and teens (so around 5 or 6 to 15 or 16) and has ones like The Owl and the Pussycat…

You could buy her a book she can grow into:
The Wind in the Willows
Alice in Wonderland
The Daring Book for Girls (not a story book, but full of “essential” things girls need to know. it comes in hard back and makes a good gift)
Beatrix Potter (peter rabbit books)
A Child’s Garden of Verse by Robert Louis Stevenson–it’s a classic book of poetry for children. i always loved The Land of Counterplane

though she won’t really appreciate them as picture books, I read these to my kids when they were still infants, and they’ll grow into them later. til then, they look good and approrpiate on the bookshelf in their room.

My 9 month old daughter absolutely loves the illustrations in the “If You Give A…” series by Laura Numeroff. She loves when I read them too her. They are really cute and funny books but aren’t gender specific. My daughters favorites are If You Give a Pig A Pancake and If You Give A Mouse A Cookie.

Madeline and Fancy Nancy are great books that are aimed specifically at girls as well. Dr Suess is always a winner as well.

That book with the mouse and the moon. Like goodnight mouse or was it goodnight moon. Something like that.

Then in a few years go harry potter. burn anything related to twilight.

I got a samsung galaxy prevail about five months ago. It worked fine. Then one day about two weeks ago it was de-charging itself. Like it would be at 10% then 7% then 3% until it was completley dead. I was so confused. Then it would charge normal. Then it would start decharging again. I thought maybe it had something to do with the battery? so I bought a brand new battery, and it did the same thing?! I don’t know what to do. please help!

I have been looking at reviews for the Samsung Galaxy Prevail from Boost Mobile because I am in search of a new phone. Most of the reviews are really good or really bad. I’m mostly looking for a music player, a good texting device (i love the swipe keyboard), and I love being on twitter. Battery life really doesn’t matter much to me. I want to know your experience with the phone. I hear it gives bad reception in places and good reception in places such as Brooklyn. I have never had reception problems with me living in Tennessee fom my company Boost Mobile. Any pros and cons would be very helpful. Thank you.

It’s a decent phone. As to the coverage, it’s all depends on where you live. Boost is own by Sprint therefore uses Sprint network. I live in Oregon and I have no problem with the coverage/reception. Altho, the sound quality when talking on it isn’t all that great but it works for me.

Please dont tell me to call boost they never help, anyways my little brother was playing with my phone earlier and then it just started acting weird like it wouldnt stop vibrating and then i turned it off and took out the battery and then it still didnt work so i plugged it in but now it wont even turn on! the battery is charged a little more than half way and even when its at 30% it still lets me turn it on.
